IOM has provided technical assistance to governments in order to establish contracting mechanisms to ensure fair, transparent and decent placement of migrant workers, particularly in the framework of bilateral agreements. Among the services provided, IOM supported visa application procedures, travel arrangements, pre-departure orientation and follow-up.
Currently, and since September 6, 2013, IOM is operating the Canada Visa Application Centre (CVAC) in El Salvador and Honduras for those wishing to travel to that country with temporary residence visa. This occurs under the contract awarded by the Government of Canada to the VFS Global company.

Furthermore, IOM also supports the Australia Visa Program for temporary visas for tourists, visiting relatives or student permits. This program does not include work visas. However, people interested in this type of visa can find more information by clicking here.
A refugee is a person who, because of well-founded fears of being persecuted on the basis of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his or her nationality and cannot or will not, based on such fears, ask for the protection of their country, or to return to it. The agency mandated to lead and coordinate international action for the protection of refugees worldwide is the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
